Verna has studied and become proficient in the arts of Cree beadwork techniques, porcupine quill work, quilting, leatherwork and many styles of basketry. With a love and curiosity of all cultures, their mediums and techniques, it is not unusual to find Verna practicing a new knot or experimenting with new dyes on pine-needles or home-grown gourds.

Her pieces are part vision and part evolution as contrasting textures, colors, and rhythms weave their way through her work. She does not necessarily have a pre-determined outcome but rather lets them evolve. Verna feels that each piece is an experience, an experiment which has her contemplating the next piece before she has finished the last. As one experiment leads to another she files her knowledge. With skill, experience, that driving force, and a sense of humor, Verna's work is always changing. She feels like she has only begun.
